Charis in Ethiopia
‘Religion that God accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after widows and orphans in their distress.’ James 1:27
In October 2020 Charis started to work in Ethiopia with Elizabeth Melaku, a Christian nurse with a beautiful calling to reach out to the most vulnerable with holistic care.
Mandy met Elizabeth over 20 years ago on a medical missions trip and they became friends. Unfortunately, due to circumstances, they lost touch, but last year in 2020 after a long search, Elizabeth found Mandy through Charis’ Facebook page. Charis recognized the hand of God in our coming together and Elizabeth is now working with Charis, caring for the poorest of the poor in and around her community of Nekemte in Western Ethiopia.
We provide monthly food and basic necessities for a growing list of economically poor, HIV positive, sick, disabled, and elderly people. Elizabeth makes daily pastoral visits tending to their medical needs, encouraging them with prayer and God’s word, and lifting their spirits with God’s love that overflows from her heart.
