Ethiopia Trip March 2025

We have just returned from a 2 week trip to Addis Ababa to spend time with Elizabeth and Febien and visit the dear ones on their care list. It was incredibly moving to hear the stories of the mothers with children, all of whom had fled their homes in neighbouring Oromio, where conflicts have been raging between OLF ( Oromio Liberation Front) and government forces. They all lost their husbands to the war and in the chaos had to flee to the relative safety of Addis Ababa, the sprawling capital city that holds 4 million people.

Addis is a huge city with wide roads jammed with cars, taxis, buses alongside horse and carts. The street pavements are peppered with women and children sitting begging for a few birr so they can buy a little bread. The streets are not safe and they have to keep moving because police have been commissioned to tidy up the streets.

Our hearts broke to see so many desperate mothers and small children. We thank God for Hindya, Tigist, Tsion, Asnaku and more whom we have been able to help with rented rooms, monthly food, clothes and equipping the kids for school and know this ministry of rescue and transformation is very much on God’s heart.

A mother sits in silence with her 2 children waiting for a few birr…..

Visiting the safe compound where Tigist and Asnaku live and neighbours Hindya and Tsion joined us.

Meeting Hindya and her 5 children in the room Charis now rents was a joy. Hindya thanks God every day when they eat and their bellies are full and that she can now sleep in peace knowing her children are safe.
